New Youth Advisor
The Regional Committee is pleased to announce the appointment of Giles
Atkinson as NE Youth Adviser. Giles has been involved in theatre for
some 20 years and joins NODA NE with a great track record on Youth Theatre,
as can be seen from his (abridged) CV:
I have been involved in amateur and professional theatre for over 20
years and after training and working in the profession I went into teaching
which I have been doing for the past 12 years. I have worked in primary,
secondary and further education and in my last secondary school was responsible
for Community Arts Education. This involved working with local schools
in the Wakefield area on various arts projects sometimes involving just
one school and on other occasions up to ten schools.
I am a freelance producer, director, choreographer and lecturer in Performing
Arts. I trained in Musical Theatre and Arts and Design and upon leaving
Performing Arts School and University went on tour as ASM/Understudy
with the production 70 Girls 70 starring Dora Bryan and played Simon
Zealotes in the touring production of Jesus Christ Superstar.
I currently lecture in Performing Arts at Craven College Skipton to students
aged 14 and above and am responsible for such courses as GCSE Drama, A Level
Drama and various BTEC courses as well as organising various work placements
within the industry.
I also run my own Performing Arts Schools in Wakefield and Leeds where our aims
are to provide a high quality training for young people in the performing arts
and to offer first class opportunities to perform in local and national venues.
We have performed in local and regional venues and been asked to perform at the
Royal Albert Hall. Working in education and running a performing arts school
I am fully aware of current legislation regarding children and the employment
and involvement of adults in the industry where children are involved.
I very much look forward to being involved with NODA North East.
