In addition to the services offered by NODA, there are further services and events offered to members by NODA NE. These are briefly described as:
Scratchings - the Regional Magazine, published twice per year. As well as news about our members and about NODA, Regional Reps give brief critiques of productions visited. Scratchings is published in March & September, covering show seasons up to Christmas and up to June respectively. We are also starting to load these on to this website – July to December 2009 are already here and we hope to have January to June 2010 available in early July.
Regional Fixture List – details of forthcoming productions – dates, venues and contact info.
Workshops – NODA NE regularly organise and support workshops on many aspects of theatre & musical theatre. We have recently held two workshops covering Make-Up and are currently planning a Stage Fighting Workshop – we intend to have more information shortly on this website.
Co-funding of workshops – NODA NE is able to offer co-funding for workshops organised by societies & we have recently supported workshops by York Light & Ilkley AOS. Contact Councillor Chris” for further details.
We know that many societies are experiencing financial difficulties and NODA have recently run two pilot workshops “The Business of Amateur Theatre” and we are planning that this workshop will be rolled out to each Region in the coming months. Watch this space as to when “The Business of Amateur Theatre” will come to NODA North East
Annual Weekend – Every April, NODA NE holds its AGM & built around this meeting is what has become affectionately known as the “NODA Weekend”. This starts on Friday evening with a banquet followed by a cabaret, Saturday morning are workshop sessions with the AGM in the afternoon. Saturday evening starts with a second cabaret which is followed by the Ball with dancing to Todd Miller & the Joe Loss Orchestra. The weekend ends after a guest speaker on Sunday morning.
The weekend attracts in excess or 800 amateur theatre enthusiasts from the Region and tickets are always very much in demand. The venue for 2010 was in The Spa Bridlington and there is a report and photographs of the Weekend on this website. The Spa Bridlington has recently been magnificently restored and is one of the best conference venues in the UK so why not put the dates for next year in your diary now – Friday April 15th to Sunday April 17th 2011.
District Evenings – all our Regional Reps organise NODA Evenings, giving members of societies in their region a chance to get to know each other and to network together. The current programme of meetings is critically important to all societies since the main topic we are covering is the new Independent Safeguarding Authority and the Vetting and Barring Scheme. This new legislation became law in October 2009 and it will affect every society. Your society has a legal obligation to implement this law and if you do not then you may be subject to a criminal prosecution.
Directory of production teams – the Region does have details of many directors, MDs and choreographers and is able to help societies that are looking for directors etc. – please contact your Regional Representative.
NODA Summer School Bursaries - NODA run a Summer School in August each year covering many different aspects of theatre and NODA North East is able to offer bursaries to help our members of NODA North east societies to attend. Each bursary covers very nearly half the fee.
There are still some places available on this year’s Summer School: http://domain992762.sites.fasthosts.com/pdf/SummerSchoolBrochure-2010.pdf but all our bursaries have been allocated for this year.
The prospectus for the 2011 Summer School will be published in November and at the same time details of the NODA North East Bursaries will be announced – closing date for applications for Bursaries will be 31st January 2011 so watch this space!
